Ordinary Bishop Vitalis Skomarowski
Bishop Vitalis Skomarowski was born 30 December 1963 in the town of Berdichev, Zhytomyr region. After graduating from medical college he entered Theological Seminary in Riga and was ordained 27 May 1990. He worked as a vicar in Berdichev in 1990–1991, as a bishop’s secretary and a vicar in Zhytomyr in 1991–1992, as a parish priest in Sumy in 1992–1995.
In 1995 Father Vitalis was appointed chancellor of a diocesan curia in Zytomyr and since 1998 a parish priest of the St Sophia cathedral in Zhytomyr.
In 2000–2002 he is a vice-rector of Theological Seminary in Vorzel, in 2002–2011 he performed duties of the rector in the same Seminary.
7 April 2003 Pope John Paul II appointed Father Vitalis auxiliary bishop of Kyiv-Zhytomyr diocese.
Episcopal ordination was performed by Marian Cardinal Jaworski, Metropolitan of Lviv. 12 April 2014 the bishop Vitalis Skomarowski was appointed Ordinary bishop of Lutsk Diocese and his solemn ingress to St Peter and Paul’s Cathedral took place 17 May 2014.
Bishop Vitalis Skomarowski is Secretary General of the Conference of Roman Catholic bishops of Ukraine, the Head of the Mass-media Committee, Committee of Men and Women’s Congregations of the Conference.
