«Caritas-Spes»
“Caritas” – charity organization of Catholic Church, spread all over the world. Its name means “love” in Latin. In Ukraine this organization has a full name “Religious Mission Caritas-Spes” of Rome-Catholic church” (“spes” means “hope”). The main task of the Mission is the help to all those who need help irrespective of their confessional belonging and ethnic origin. It includes spiritual and material help for the poor, orphans, suffering from catastrophes, the sick, migrants, prisoners.
The first “Caritas” organization was founded in Freiburg, Germany in 1897, soon it spread all over Europe. Now there are nearly 170 national “Caritas” organizations which are parts of “Caritas-Internationalis”. Ukrainian Mission was founded in 1995, now it has 30 branches in different regions of Ukraine.
In Lutsk diocese a branch of “Caritas-spes” was founded in 29.01.1999. German partners-foundation “Humanitarian help to people on the East” from Steinfeld-Mühlen
and “Bokerner Klike” from Lone cooperate closely with it, supplying the cargos of humanitarian help. Due to their sacrificial help a recreational camp was built in Pulmo village, Shatsky district, Volyn region.
The Mission organized a distribution centre of humanitarian help in which the distressed can receive clothes and footwear, linen or other necessary things. Diocesan “Caritas-Spes” always takes care of a few orphanages and hospitals, and from time to time helps territorial Centers for lonely, disabled citizens in Volyn and Rivne regions. Except clothes and footwear orphanages also receive furniture and educational equipment and presents for holidays. Every summer children from residential care homes and also children from incomplete families have a possibility to recreate free of charge in a wonderful Mission camp at Lake Svityaz . Also constant help is given to a few penitentiary institutions.
Priests and volunteers from “ Caritas-Spes” takes care of the sick and lonely, and they give not only material help but spiritual care as well. By its activity “ Caritas–Spes” wants to give help to all those who desperately need it, irrespective of their confessional belonging or nationality, in a spirit of Christ’s love and real Christian values.

Integration Centre is situated in the village Zamlynnia, Liuboml district , Volyn region, near the state border of Ukraine, Poland and Belarus. The Centre was created to integrate children, youth and art representatives of these three states. The founder of the Centre is Religious Mission “Caritas-Spes” of Lutsk Diocese Roman Catholic Church.
Over 10 years ago the buildings of former tuberculosis hospital were given to the Mission. The edifice and the surrounding territory were in a horrible state so the renovation work is still going on and it requires a lot of money. But all these inconveniences are fully compensated by wonderful Polissia nature, fresh air and virgin forests.
Now at Integration Centre “ Zamlynnia” international planers of Icon-painting are held every year since 2010 and Summer School of Polish language is held as well.
On the 20th of June 2015 Integration Centre “Zamlynnia” has been officially opened and consecrated by bishop Vitalii Skomarovskyi, ordinary of Lutsk diocese.

As not all parents, especially in incomplete families, are able to provide the recreation for their kids, Religious Mission “Caritas-Spes”of Lutsk Diocese built on the bank of Lake Svitiaz the Recreation Centre for children from low-income families. At first, since 1997, children stayed in the simple tents on the lakeshore, soon at the outskirts of the village Pulmo a plot of land with a house was bought so the tents were located in the yard. The conditions were very simple – tents, mobile kitchen. Mass were celebrated in the open air. In the camp there were orphans from orphanages, children from incomplete and low-income families, children with special needs. They were looked after by teachers-volunteers and priests from Lutsk Diocese because as usual such kids require special attention and care.
Gradually the infrastructure of the camp improved: a new building was constructed, shower cabins were installed and stationary tents were put. A small sports ground was made, kitchen was equipped. But time dictated new conditions, that is why in 2007 Religious Mission “Caritas-Spes” made a decision to reconstruct (and actually to build a new camp).
Due to financial and construction-renovation help of charitable people a new building to live was constructed, modern toilets and bathrooms were installed, a kitchen and a dining-room were built and equipped with the modern equipment, a chapel was made. 28 June 2014 Center was sanctified by Ordinary of Kharkiv-Zaporizhia Diocese, President of “Caritas-Spes” of Ukraine and former Lutsk Administrator Stanislav Szyrokoradiuk and present Ordinary of Lutsk Diocese Vitalis Skomarowski. Now it is possible to host in the camp 50 children at a time.
